Thanks again to Gilbert Cromie for this excellent ‘Tartan Talk’ article in the News Letter.  Gilbert’s weekly ‘Tartan Talk’ article will now be published in each weekly Johnston Press newspaper province-wide - Londonderry Sentinel, Mid Ulster Mail, Ballymena Times, Antrim Times, Ballymoney Times, Coleraine Times, Carrickfergus Times, Larne Times, Newtownabbey Times, Ulster Star, Dromore Leader, Banbridge Leader, Lurgan Mail and Portadown Times. 

Also, with the start of the new pipe band season Gilbert will have an article in each Monday’s News Letter showing pics, report and results from each contest - this is tremendous visibility for the pipe band scene.

Inveraray & District ‘Live in Ballymena’

As part of their 70th-year celebrations, Ballybriest Pipe Band hosted a great evening of entertainment at the ‘Live in Ballymena’ concert at the Tullyglass House Hotel, Ballymena on Friday 4th May featuring current World Champion pipe band Inveraray & District (Scotland).  This was the first time that Inveraray has put on a concert in Northern Ireland and under the direction of Pipe Major Stuart Liddell and Lead Drummer Steven McWhirter (who recently won his eighth World Solo drumming title) this was a not to be missed event.  There was a special treat for the (over 800) pipe bands enthusiasts who attended as Pipe Major Richard Parkes MBE (Field Marshal Montgomery Pipe Band) joined the members of Inveraray on stage and played a selection of tunes.  The compere was Mark Wilson who added his extensive knowledge of piping and drumming as he introduced each set of tunes.

The Quinn Memorial Pipe Band are taking a coach to the British Pipe Band Championships in Paisley on 19th May.

Coach leaving Killygullib and travelling to Belfast for 7.30 am Stena Line ferry to Cairnryan before travelling on To the championships returning on the 11. 00 pm sailing from Cairnryan. Some spaces still available, for further details, contact Gary Smyth or any member of the band.

 Also, the ladies are running a Spring Tea tomorrow evening (Thursday 3rd May)  in the Hall to raise funds starting at 7.30pm all welcome.  Admission £3.00.
