The closing date for applications is Thursday 15th September at 4pm.

Ulster-Scots Community Network staff will be speaking at information evenings in a number of locations to offer advice and guidance to those wishing to apply –

  • Monday 1st August 2016 at 8.00pm Ballymoney Town Hall, 1 Townhead St, Ballymoney, BT53 6BE
  • Tuesday 2nd August 2016 at 8.00pm – Discover Ulster-Scots Centre, 1-9 Victoria St, Belfast, BT1 3GA
  • Thursday 4th August 2016 at 8.00pm – Brownlow House, Windsor Ave, Lurgan, BT67 9BJ (in association with Carla Lockhart MLA and David Simpson MP)
  • Thursday 4th August 2016 at 8.00pm – Lislimnaghan Parish Church Hall, Beltany Rd, Omagh, BT78 5NA

(To assist us with event planning please register your intention to attend these meetings by contacting our office 028 90 436710 or emailing info@ulster-scots.com)

This programme is designed to increase the quality of music-making in the community by helping bands to replace worn-out instruments with new ones and is open to formally constituted bands in Northern Ireland.

Who cannot apply?
Bands who received a Musical Instruments for Band Scheme award between January 2009 and February 2016 cannot apply at this time.

Since the scheme also requires evidence of two years engagements/performance history it is very unlikely that newly formed bands will be successful.

* NB. If you are unsure about your eligibility contact the Ulster-Scots Community Network office on 028 90 436710.

The 65th Ulster Championships takes place in Antrim Castle Gardens. The Gardens provide an absolutely magnificent setting, recently benefitting from a £6 million restoration project.  There are a wide range of beautiful garden features within the grounds as well as the refurbished Clotworthy House, Garden Coffee Shop etc

There are two town centre car parks available with over 500 free car parking spaces, opposite the pedestrian entrance to Antrim Castle Gardens.  An overflow carpark has been organised at Junction One Outlet centre holding 2000 spaces.  Double Decker buses will then transfer folk and equipment to the competition venue, and will run throughout the day from 8.30am.  Once inside Junction One car park follow the white signs to ‘Coach Drop-off Point’.

Parking for all those with a disabled badge, including disabled Motorhome users is available within the grounds as well as for band coaches.

In May this year 10,000 people attended the Northern Ireland Garden Show at the same venue using the same facilities, this was a successful event that charged £7 per head.  Our event is free.

We hope that this clarifies any concerns that may have arisen over the past few days regarding parking facilities.

Motor Homes cannot park in Antrim centre car parks due to height restrictions. Please use the park and ride facility from Junction One Outlet.

As previously posted there is no overnight parking allowed in Castle Gardens for motor homes but a few spaces are still available at the dedicated Lough Shore Caravan park (tel.02894464963). It is a leisurely 10 minute walk from Caravan Park to Antrim Castle Gardens along the river edge.

Due to heavy rainfall last week no car parking is available in Castle Gardens, Antrim except for coaches and registered disabled parking . Limited free car parking is available in adjacent town centre car parks at Central Car Park and Castle Street Car Park, Castle Gardens being opposite across main road.

A park and ride facility is also available from Junction One Outlet, with a regular bus shuttle service all day to the Championships, this also gives the opportunity for some shopping.
