The much awaited Lurgan Park event is almost upon us. Together with Armagh City Banbridge and Craigavon Borough Council we have been working to bring you the best we can get in terms of Champion Pipe Bands and Drum Majors. Together with great music on stage with the

Battlefield Band Crooked Jack and Sioda. They will be joined by The Ulster Scots Agency Juvenile Band and other musicians. There will be music in the town centre and other entertainments for Children. Food tents and the usual hot food outlets will be available.

Again this year we have taken the work done by the Childrens Hospice to our hearts and with the monumental efforts of R G Hardie of Glasgow supplying the bagpipes, and a great team from the Hospice we hope to do well in this our charity event.

Stay tuned for more information on what is on offer at Lurgan Park on the 20th June.

The Annual championships were held in Lurgan Park today. From early morning until around 6pm some 47 bands and drum majors entertained record crowds of spectators in a sun kissed park with the backdrop of Lurgan lake. This was indeed a great occasion for all who attended and the Mayor of Craigavon Colin McCusker praised the tremendous effort put into the event by all involved. The local MP Mr David Simpson also  spoke of his pleasure at being invited to such an impressive event. Diane Dodds MEP also spoke at the finale extending her congratulations on an excellent day.

A feature of this championships was the inclusion of the NI Children's Hospice as the chosen charity. A set of bagpipes donated by R G Hardie & Co from Glasgow was the star prize and the winner was piper Philip Speers from Killeen. An impressive total of £2,500 was collected and donated for this very worthy cause. This event has to be put into the level of one of the most successful events ever promoted by the Co Down SectIon. Congratulations go to all who helped in another success story for the RSPBA NI.

The section would wish to express their thanks  to Eddie Montgomery Edenderry Print Management for their support and help with the programme.

Another feature performed by Bleary and District was Amazing Grace when all pipers joined in what an impressive sound this was.

Music was also provided by three groups on stage Violeen The Upducky Band and Blackthorn so all tastes were catered for at this event.

Results are attached and here.
