CULLYBACKEY PIPE BAND

We are a pipe band from County Antrim, Northern Ireland.  We currently compete in Grades One & Four both domestically and in the wider circuit.  We are renowned worldwide for pioneering the youth development scheme in Northern Ireland, bolstered by our Annual Piping & Drumming Solo Competition.

Our young players are featured in solo prizegiving year on year, and aim to always promote the art of piping & drumming in the local area whilst simultaneously giving young people experience "on the grass".

Our Grade One band draws membership from across Northern Ireland, extending itself across the water to Scotland & England.  Our core local members - tutored and guided within the band allow us to remain competitive year-on-year, whilst creating our growing appeal to the wider pipe band community.

BAND HISTORY

CullybackeyPipe Band was first formed in the year 1919, and met initially in the home of the late John McClean.  The band was formed with the help of two other foundation members, Tom Greenwood & James Davidson.  The Cullybackey Druming School was formed in 1994 by Ardian Hoy, consisting of youngsters from the village and surrounding areas in the Ballymena district.  It has since produced two World Solo Champions and two World Champion drum corps.  During the winter of 2000, the band committee once again decided to form a junior band.  The band has since been promoted to Grade 4a and continues to produce real homegrown talent.

Cullybackey Pipe Band proudly wears the Ancient Red MacPherson tartan.
