Change of Venue in 2019

The Fermanagh Section wish to advise that their 2019 Pipe Band and Drum Majors Championships will be held at the Showgrounds beside the Exhibition Centre, Old Tempo Road, Lackaboy, Enniskillen BT74 4BA on Saturday 25th May 2019.

The change of venue for 2019 is due to the ongoing gas pipe laying into Fermanagh as part of Gas to the West Project with part of the Wellington Road car park being inaccessible adjacent to the Lakeland Forum.

The section will operate a flexi bus  from the new venue to Enniskillen Town Centre should supporters and visitors to the championships wish to  visit or shop in the only Island town in Ireland on the day of the championships.

The section are delighted to work with the Fermanagh Show Committee to host the 2019 Fermanagh Championships in the Fermanagh Showgrounds.

South Derry/Londonderry Piping and Drumming Project

‘Young People Piping and Drumming in Harmony’

Today an ‘Open Afternoon’ was held at Ampertaine Primary School, Upperlands as part of the project. The Objective of the programme is to teach piping and drumming to boys and girls in controlled, maintained and integrated schools, primary and secondary, within the South Derry/Londonderry Area.

The ‘Open Afternoon’ enabled students from all participating schools involved in the project to meet together for a piping and drumming workshop. Council Officers Oliver Morgan and Deidre McCann were in attendance representing Mid Ulster District Council. The Project is funded by Mid Ulster District Council under Peace IV funding.

During the past year pupils from the Primary and Secondary sector have had the opportunity to receive teaching in the practice and theory of music in the art of piping and drumming. Pupils have already enjoyed the experience of participating in their respective school concerts and local festivals.

The ‘Open Afternoon took the form of a workshop where pupils worked in groups relative to their standard and followed the programme as outlined.

  1. Essential piping and drumming skills.
  2. Monotones – Foundation for reading music.
  3. Separate groups:
  • Piping – Tune preparation.
  • Drumming – Tune preparation.
  1. Combined group piping and drumming.

A fifteen-minute programme based on the above activities concluded the workshop. Individual and group work was demonstrated for their parents who took the opportunity to view this part of the event.
